Could you tell us a bit about yourself, what you sell at Slepps and how you got started?
Slepps is a Nordic indoor shoes brand founded by two enthusiastic young entrepreneurs from Finland and the UK. We wanted to design the most comfortable, yet stylish slippers made out of genuine leather and natural sheep’s wool lining.
What did it take to get your first products in stock? Has that changed since you started?
We designed the model and found a manufacturer for the product after ordering numerous samples and exploring different factories. It took about 6 months to find a factory that could meet our quality standards in terms of craftsmanship and materials.
Slepps currently sells only one model with one colour – Slepps Originals.
How did you get your first sale?
Our first sale came about 2 hours after we had opened our online store.We had launched the brand couple of weeks earlier and people had subsubscribed to our ‘coming soon’ email list.
Once we launched the store, orders started coming in.
What obstacles and challenges have you overcome along the way?
Our biggest challenge has been to get the product right as we really wanted to ensure that Slepps is of the highest quality. After finding a reliable manufacturer we haven’t had to worry about it anymore!
What influenced your decision to use Shopify?
With Shopify you can create a store very quickly, without having to know any coding. Shopify also has lots of useful apps.
What was the process like to get started? Is there anything you wish you had known then that you know now?
We spent lot of time creating content for our store. We wish we would have known more about the importance of SEO when we started.
Since we started, we have invested in search engine optimisation, which is finally starting to pay off!
What Shopify apps do you currently use? Which apps are most important to your business and why?
What theme did you choose for your site and why?
We chose Startup theme, as we found it the most customisable and versatile. Also, nowadays the majority of the traffic is from mobile and the responsiveness on Startup was the best from all the themes we tried out.
What strategies have you used to attract more leads and grow Slepps?
We gain visitors from Facebook, Instagram and blogs. Slepps gets lot of organic traffic when people are searching for stylish slippers on Google.
What are some of the most effective ways that you interact with your customers?
We communicate with our customers in a very personal, friendly way and we react to all the messages very quickly!
Are there any metrics you can share in terms of order volume, monthly sales, increased revenue, growth %, etc.?
Our monthly sales figures have grown steadily around 40-50% every month!
To what do you attribute those positive metrics?
Positive word-of-mouth and increased brand awareness through social media and blogs.
What are you working towards now?
Slepps is looking to launch a clothing line and new premium slippers in the future.
Based on your own success, what advice would you share with others who might be just starting out with Shopify (or with eCommerce in general)?
Do a lot of keyword research around your product. Also, invest time to get the product right, that has helped us a lot!
